About Puck
Puck is my little boy. He's a 5 year old black and brown dapple mini dachshund. I adopted him through Dachshund Rescue with the help of Adrian Milton and Trudy Kawami. He came to live with me Dec 28, 2002. He was 2 years and 5 months old. My mini dachshund Heidi, my little girl had just died Dec 22. I was, and still am heartbroken. Adrian called me Dec 26th (he knew Heidi had just died and I was really sad) He told me about "Addy"-who is now Puck. He said Addy was timid, shy, passive and submissive. He said Addy had 3 other homes in his short life and never found a family to really love him. He said Addy needed extra love and would I be willing to adopt him. It was a difficult decision. I wasn't ready for another dachshund, my heart was broken over Heidi; but Addy needed me! On Dec. 28, 2002, Addy was brought to my parent's home. We were all waiting for him. It was a bittersweet moment when I saw him. He looked just like Heidi. But he had the saddest eyes. He was timid and scared. I wasn't used to this, Heidi was feisty and tough! I renamed Addy Puck. I love hockey and the NY Rangers, so I thought the name was cute for a little dachshund. Puck learned his new name within 2 days! I noticed right away everything Adrian told me. Puck was submissive and anxious. He followed me everywhere. He barely ate for the first month. I brought him to my vet, Dr. Rogoff and Dr. Simon from Animal Hospital of the Rockaway's. Dr. Rogoff said Puck was in perfect health-he couldn't believe he was from a rescue. He saw how timid Puck was-not a typical dachshund. Puck must have had a hard life! Well was that about to change for Puck...... (More on his adventures later) Its 3 years now that Puck came to live with me. People ask about him and how he's changed. So here are some answers. Puck is still passive. He's a submissive dog. He is extra affectionate. Puck formed a special bond with my dad, his grandfather, right away. He still doesn't play with toys, Dr. Rogoff told me he wouldn't. He likes soft treats; he doesn't eat rawhide bones and hard treats like most doxies. He socializes with other dogs much better now; he isn't as scared of them as he used to be. Of course, as a dachshund he sleeps on my bed and borrows under blankets. He loves the beach. Puck still is anxious, he doesn't like to be alone at all. He is so lovable, he wants everyone to love him and will jump on your lap and kiss you. He is just sweet by nature. Not a mean bone in his body. I joke and say Puck doesn't even know how to snap or bite if his little life depended on it! He always has a sad look on his face. Like my friend Laura (Tippy's mom) says; it's as if he knows all the secrets of the world and he must keep them to himself. What a burden for such a little dog! Name- Puck Anthony Birthday- July 18, 2000
